Sperm collection for Fertility treatments
Sperm collection for In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with or without Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), or for Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI) can be coordinated to happen the same day as maternal egg collection. Alternatively, depending on your circumstances, your sperm can be stored until usage for any of the above Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ARTs) with sperm freezing.
Instructions for Semen Collection
It is important – in order to obtain sperm of good quality – to follow our instructions for semen collection. Your doctor will discuss these with you at a prior consultation.
- Abstain from any sexual activity for 2 or 3 days before the planned day for the semen collection. In any case, this period cannot be longer than 5 days, as it can be damaging for the sperm quality.
- The sample has to be collected, ideally, in the clinic. In our AAFC Andrology unit, we have 2 allocated rooms for this purpose.
- Semen has to be collected in the plastic container provided by us, as it is sterile and non-toxic for subsequent procedures.
